Our Story

Kraal began with a simple but powerful vision to use technology to transform the way livestock farming is managed, without losing the heritage and heart of farming itself.

Kraal’s founder, Ian Bester, was raised on a farm before embarking on a career that involved leading digital transformation for some of the world's most reputable companies. His time working internationally exposed him to the profound impact of advanced technology on various industries, and he quickly identified that agriculture, especially livestock farming, stood to gain significantly from similar innovations.

The idea was clearly to bring together the traditional wisdom of farmers with the precision and reliability of modern technology. Farmers know their animals better than anyone, but they need tools that help them protect their herds, make better decisions, and prepare for the challenges of the future.

That vision became Kraal's two solutions; Livestock Management, a software platform for streamlined operations, and Livestock Monitoring, adding real-time tracking via smart ear tags and gateways, designed to be practical, scalable and farmer-first. From our smart ear tags and gateways to the all-encompassing, intuitive platform, everything we build is focused on giving farmers peace of mind, protecting their investment, and helping them grow stronger businesses.
